What piques our interest
The 30ml Fiery Pink Pepper Eau de Parfum changes what this calendar is. Minis are for sampling; 30ml is a bottle you wear. Pair it with the Fragrance Travel Case and the Fiery Pink Pepper Body Cream, and one scent arrives as a small ritual rather than a single spritz.
The seven 7.5ml Eau de Parfums are the part we’d open first. Tea Ceremony, Mesmerising Oudh Accord & Gold, Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel, Rose Dunes, Sunlit Clementine & Vetiver, Re-charge Black Pepper and Neon Amber cover a lot of ground, from bright and green to warm and golden. For anyone who has admired Molton Brown on a hotel washbasin but never chosen a fragrance of their own, it’s a relaxed way to find one, a few days at a time.
Then there’s the bath and body care, which is where Molton Brown made its name. Four of the scents are paired: Tea Ceremony, Mesmerising Oudh Accord & Gold, Re-charge Black Pepper and Neon Amber each come as a 100ml Bath & Shower Gel alongside their Eau de Parfum, so you can layer a scent from the shower onwards. Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel goes further still, with a body cream, shampoo and conditioner as well as the fragrance.
The hand care feels right for December too. Red Berry Revel comes as a Fine Liquid Hand Wash and Hand Lotion, both 100ml, the sort of pairing that looks at home by a guest bathroom sink over Christmas. Orange & Bergamot arrives as a hand wash, a 40ml Hand Cream and a 65g candle.
The two candles are a nice touch. Mesmerising Oudh Accord & Gold and Orange & Bergamot feel like two different moods, so there’s a candle for the long evenings and one for brighter mornings.
What we’d change
We’d have loved a second larger bottle. The 30ml Fiery Pink Pepper is the star, and one more of the Eau de Parfums at that size, perhaps Tea Ceremony or Rose Dunes, would have given the fragrance side two anchors instead of one.
The pairings mean fewer scents than doors. Because many of the fragrances return as a shower gel, cream or hand care, a lot of the calendar is spent with the same handful of scents. That’s lovely for layering, but anyone hoping for a new discovery every morning may find the second half familiar.
