Does it pique our interest?
It does, mostly because it’s so easy to live with. The make-up doors are the sort you’d happily reach for every morning. Max Factor’s 2000 Calorie mascara is a long-standing favourite for volume. Rimmel’s Lasting Finish lip pencil and Catrice’s tinted lip balm cover the everyday lip, and a shimmer eyeshadow from Notino’s own line adds a little sparkle for party season. Revuele’s Fix and Matte setting spray comes in a full 120ml bottle, so it will see you well past New Year.
The brow doors are a nice touch too. got2b appears twice, with a brow-and-edges setting gel and a brow lift wax with its own brush. That’s a proper little brow kit tucked inside a larger calendar.
The practical doors deserve a mention too, because they’re the ones that make December mornings easier. A Gillette Venus Smooth razor with spare heads, a Dove Raspberry & Rose deodorant and a Vaseline Vanilla Daydream lip balm aren’t glamorous on paper, but they’re exactly what you reach for every single day, and there’s real pleasure in opening something you’ll use before the kettle has boiled.
Skincare is lighter but thoughtfully chosen. Olay’s Super Serum with vitamin C is the one we’d open first, and it’s joined by Dermacol’s collagen cream for the eyes and lips, a hydrogel eye mask from essence (a good one for the morning after a late night) and Yves Rocher’s Hydra Water-Plump mask.
Then there’s the body and hair edit, which is where this calendar feels most generous. Weleda’s Very Cherry shower cream, Dove’s Winter Berry shower gel and firming Pro-Retinol body serum, and a sunny Escada body lotion make for a very pleasant bathroom shelf. On the hair side, Pantene’s nourishing oil, Revuele’s rosemary strengthening oil, Gliss’s scalp serum and Alama Professional’s 5-in-1 repair fluid cover most hair types between them.
And a small Lacoste eau de parfum closes the fragrance gap nicely.
What we’d change
Our wishes here are modest. We’d happily swap one of the three Dove doors for a second fragrance miniature. The Lacoste is lovely, and it leaves us wanting another scent to try.
We’d also love one more skincare treat to sit alongside the Olay serum, perhaps a cleanser or a richer night cream, so the face doors felt as full as the body and hair ones.
Finally, a small printed guide to the doors would be welcome. With 20 brands inside, it would help a gift recipient know what they’ve opened and how to use it.
