Korean Skincare puts its worth at over €540 and states that all 27 products are full size. Two of them are made just for the calendar: a Melixir Green Tea Low pH Foam Cleanser and a Black Rouge Air Hip Glow Tint in AH05 Fig Bare.
It’s on pre-order now, and pre-orders ship by the end of October. It’s limited to one per order and has to be ordered on its own. Korean Skincare lists it as non-returnable and non-cancellable, and says discount codes don’t apply.
Does it pique our interest?
It does, and it starts at the sink. Tidal Glow gives you a complete double cleanse in three steps: K-Secret’s SEOUL 1988 Cleansing Oil with pine cica and probiotics, SKIN1004’s Madagascar Centella Cleansing Milk, and the calendar-exclusive Melixir green tea foam. The oil and the milk are both 200ml bottles, so this is a routine you could keep up well into the new year, not a week’s worth of samples.
PDRN is the ingredient of the moment in Korean skincare, and it’s here twice. VT Cosmetics’ PDRN Essence 100 comes in a 30ml bottle, and Purito’s Oat PDRN Gentle Refining Toner arrives in a generous 200ml. Around them sits a thoughtful run of serums and essences. There’s Jumiso’s Niacinamide 20 Serum for uneven tone, Dr.Althea’s Aqua Marine Deep Serum for skin that’s feeling parched, and iUNIK’s Beta-Glucan Lacto Barrier Milk Essence, another 200ml. Dr.Ceuracle’s Vegan Niacin & Rice Ampoule adds one more quiet brightener. And for the evenings there’s K-Secret’s retinal serum with black ginseng, alongside haruharu wonder’s Black Rice Night Knight Retinol Serum.
The moisturisers are just as considered. AXIS-Y’s Dark Spot Correcting Glow Cream comes in a 50ml tub. Eqqualberry’s Bakuchiol Plumping Capsule Cream gives a gentler alternative to retinoids, and the medicube Collagen Night Wrapping Mask is the sort of overnight treat that makes a December Sunday feel like a spa day. Pyunkang Yul’s Black Tea Time Reverse Eye Cream and a Klavuu coconut lip sleeping pack look after the finer details.
Then it wanders happily beyond the face. There’s a Kundal hyaluronic hair serum and an Elizavecca protein treatment for the lengths, and a SOME BY MI AHA BHA PHA body mist for everything below the collarbone. The whole thing reads like a K-beauty shelf built from scratch: cleanse, tone, treat, protect, and then some.
What we’d change
Our first wish is more colour. The make-up drawer holds Etude’s My Lash Serum, a Huxley priming essence and one Black Rouge tint. The tint is a lovely calendar exclusive in a wearable fig shade, but it’s the only piece of colour in the chest. With K-beauty doing so much with lips and cheeks, we’d have welcomed a cushion blush or a second tint alongside it.
We’d also make a little more room for surprise. There are two face toners (Purito’s and Beauty of Joseon’s Green Plum AHA + BHA) and two SPFs (Dear, Klairs’ All-day Airy Sunscreen and a Mary&May sun stick). Both are useful, and the sun stick is handy for a coat pocket, but one of each pair could have made way for a category the chest doesn’t reach, such as a cleansing balm or a set of hydrogel eye patches.
Finally, a note on pace rather than a complaint. With two retinoid serums and Dr.Melaxin’s Peel Shot Exfoliant in one calendar, we’d bring the stronger actives in gradually, a couple of evenings a week at first, rather than stacking them the moment each drawer opens.
