There are eight products from eight brands: DKNY, Rituals, Floral Street, Ghost, Moroccanoil, Laura Ashley, Shay & Blue and Mugler. Next describes the DKNY Be Delicious Body Mist, at 250ml, as full size. Four more are travel sizes and three are deluxe samples, by Next’s own labels.
Seven of the eight are to wear, and one, the Rituals sticks, is for the home. It’s on sale now at Next, where it sits within the wider Next beauty box range.
Does it pique our interest?
Very much so, and the reason is range. A fragrance box can easily land as eight versions of the same idea. This one moves around: something peppery, something fruity, something creamy, something dark and gourmand, and one for the room rather than the skin.
Floral Street’s Arizona Bloom is the one we’d reach for first. Black pepper and coconut give way to jasmine and fig leaf, and it dries down to cashmere woods and salted musks. It’s warm without being heavy, the kind of scent that suits a grey December afternoon. At 10ml it’s a proper travel spray, so it can go in a handbag.
Laura Ashley’s Wild Woodland is the surprise. It’s a newer name in fragrance for many people, and it’s one of the more interesting bottles here: blackberry, bergamot and raspberry over fig leaf and frankincense, with patchouli and soft amber underneath. It lives up to the box’s name more than anything else in it.
Shay & Blue’s Parfum Nashwa goes the other way, all bergamot and dark cacao, creamy coconut and a smooth oud. If the box has a late-evening scent, it’s this one.
And then the DKNY Be Delicious Body Mist. The green apple, magnolia and sandalwood is instantly familiar, and at 250ml it’s a mist to spritz freely after a shower or over a scarf, without rationing it.
The Rituals Precious Amber Mini Fragrance Sticks round it off: juniper and cardamom warmed by cinnamon, vetiver and amber. It’s the piece most likely to make the box feel like a gift for the home, too.
What we’d change
Two things, and both are small.
The Mugler Alien Goddess arrives as a 1.2ml vial. It’s the best-known fragrance name in the box and the one people will be most curious to wear. A travel spray would have let it sit alongside the Floral Street and Laura Ashley, rather than behind them.
We’d also like the line-up to lean a touch further into the botanicals of its name. Wild Woodland and Arizona Bloom carry the green, garden side beautifully, but coconut, cacao and amber turn up more often than moss or leaves. One crisp, herbal scent would have rounded the box off.
